The global warming proceeds faster in Spain than in other countries in the northern hemisphere. According to a study by Spanish scientists by the Ministry of Environment today has proposed.
Scientists of the Spanish cell of Clivar, an international organization of researchers of climate change, calculated that since 1975 Spain experienced an average temperature increase of half a degree per decade. That’s 50 percent more than the average increases in other countries in the northern hemisphere.
At the end of this century, the summer average of Spain will be 6 degrees warmer, and 2 to 3 degrees colder in the winter. According the study, the rainfall would reduce too. The Spanish Secretary of State for Climate Change, Teresa Ribera, called the report "impressive".
"Africanization"
At the Spanish coast, the sea level is rising. On the Atlantic side, in the second half of the 20th century there was a rise of 2 millimeters per year, 1.4 millimeters for the Mediterranean Sea.
According to experts, Spain is undergoing a "Africanization" of its climate with more extreme temperatures and lower rainfall. Spain would thus more and more get an African climate. A third of the territory is likely to become desert.
